Earth Day and Sustainability

We celebrated Earth Day on Monday and launched our whole school sustainability project.

As part of our whole school project based on sustainability, the children have been reading 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley', a beautifully illustrated picture book / narrative poem written by Sarah Roberts. The poem has a powerful message about plastic pollution and tells the story of Stanley, a plastic bag, who finds himself littering the sea and is accidentally eaten by various animals. Every year group in the school will produce a written outcome inspired by the book for sustainability week as part of a whole school display. To celebrate Earth Day, the children also engaged in a range of lessons and assemblies related to sustainability and how we look after our planet. Children and staff dressed up in blue and green for the day.
